Political Correctness-Aaaaaaargh!!

Check out this story.

This is political correctness run amok. Just in case you didn’t see my picture, I’m black. There is no way any black person would have found that job ad offensive. It was clearly tongue-in-cheek. To fire the guy and close the restaurant for a while was serious overkill. If I was a lawyer, and he wanted to sue, I would take his case pro bono.

Listen, white people especially men. Stop feeling guilty for the ills of your ancestors. It’s not on you. Yes there are some continuing effects on the descendants of those that were wronged, and those need to be dealt with. There’s something to be said for apologizing, or monetary compensation but only to a point. At some point people have to get on with it.

This guilt is manifesting itself as political correctness, or as the ill founded desire not to offend any minority group especially black, muslim, or women.

Who is offended at being said “merry Christmas” to? Not the muslim. They love and welcome it.

Who is offended when a black person is described as a “black person”? Not the black person. I’m more offended when were described as ‘dark’. Ridiculous.

Easter eggs are being called spring spheres.

Christmas trees are holiday trees.

Manhole covers are utility covers. Same reason we have mailperson or policeperson.

A UK recruiter was stunned when her job advert for ‘reliable’ and ‘hard-working’ applicants was rejected by the job centre as it could be offensive to unreliable and lazy people. Wow!

A UK council has banned the term ‘brainstorming’ – and replaced it with ‘thought showers’, as local lawmakers thought the term may offend epileptics. Unbelievable!

There are more absurd examples online. If you want a good laugh, check them out.

Or maybe you’ll cry instead. Our freedom of speech is slowly being chipped at. At some point we won’t be allowed to say anything lest it offend someone, as if people have the right not to be offended. We need to be careful and vigilant. We can’t lose it. Someone said, “take away all my freedoms except my freedom of speech, because with that I can win all the others back.”

I’m not saying we should purposely be offensive. That would be rude and insensitive. But if we’re being truthful or factual and that offends someone, tough.

For example, in general men are stronger than women.                                                                            or black people are faster than white people. If you watch the olympics, the 100m final is almost all blacks, men and women. Are you offended? Here’s a quarter.                            Political correctness really gets under my thin skin. Can you tell?

How about you?

  1. I agree with you. I choose to fight it by educating my children to be good to others and proud of who they are, not embarrassed or ashamed, and to say Merry Christmas, Christmas Tree but respect others and their beliefs. Now excuse me while I build a snow person with my kids.

    1. Lol. I know you wouldn’t say snowperson punk. Respecting others and their beliefs goes a long way to having people listen to what you have to say. Good call.
